ChatGPT-4.5 goes live: here what’s new

OpenAI has released ChatGPT 4.5, the latest version of its ChatGPT chatbot with many new improvements compared to previous versions.

The company released a video on 27 February giving details of how the new version works better than the previous versions, and how to best maximize its use.

For now, it’s just the research preview that is available, and it’s rolling out to all ChatGPT Pro users, with plans to include Plus and Team users next week while Enterprise and Edu users will access it the following week.

Better thinking, better results

According to OpenAI, early testing of GPT 4.5 shows that interacting with GPT‑4.5 feels more natural. 

Its broader knowledge base, improved ability to follow user intent, and greater “EQ” makes it useful for tasks like improving writing, programming, and solving practical problems with less hallucination, being trained on Microsoft Azure AI supercomputers. 

“We’re sharing GPT‑4.5 as a research preview to better understand its strengths and limitations. We’re still exploring what it’s capable of and are eager to see how people use it in ways we might not have expected.”

The new version also has scaled up unsupervised learning and reasoning, by scaling up compute and data, along with architecture and optimization innovations. 

When tested against previous versions, GPT 4.5 showed lower hallucination rate on simple Q&A, while it is highest in accuracy, probably due to the new benchmarks OpenAI released recently.

Because of its better reasoning ability, the version can be used for emotional support through a tough time, identifying a painting, or even in space exploration. 

Also top on the list is the higher safety. As the largest and best model for chat yet, GPT 4.5 also needs to be safer. 

To this end, it was trained with new techniques for supervision that are combined with traditional supervised fine-tuning (SFT) and reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF) methods like those used for GPT‑4o. 

Available immediately 

The new ChatGPT model is available immediately across devices and platforms. Pro users can  select GPT‑4.5 in the model picker on web, mobile, and desktop.

However though armed with the latest up-to-date information with search, supports file and image uploads, and can use canvas to work on writing and code, it does not yet support features like Voice Mode, video, and screen sharing in ChatGPT.
