German automaker BMW is rolling out new features in its vehicles to enhance the safety and health of car owners.
The company stated in a press release on 13 December that the new advancement in safety will be achieved in collaboration with researchers from Ā CharitĆ© ā UniversitƤtsmedizin Berlin.
This innovation will combine the use of AI and sensors to analyze usersā health and ensure they get healthcare early.
Exploring automotive health
Automotive health is an emerging field of research that can help to save the lives of car owners as well as their passengers.
By integrating technologies like AI and the use of specialized sensors, automobiles can detect cardiovascular risks such as heart attacks and strokes for early intervention.
Commenting on the collaboration Frank Weber, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Development said:
“BMW and CharitĆ© share a commitment to conducting research at the highest level. In the field of Automotive Health, we are combining our expertise to jointly advance predictive medicine. Our goal is to identify potential health risks for vehicle occupants as early as possible, enabling quicker responses in emergencies. A BMW provides the ideal environment for this with its cutting-edge sensors, actuators, and onboard high-performance computing systems.”
Professor Dr. Heyo K. Kroemer, CEO of CharitƩ Berlin said the sensors installed in the vehicles will collect and analyze data on the health of vehicle occupants from time to time. He further stated that:
“In the medium term, this will enable us to achieve significant advances in knowledge that we can utilize to promote health and enhance emergency prevention.”
Wide research
Although the collaboration is primarily to develop a system for car ownersā health and safety, it will cover a wide array of research, including developing intelligent driver assistance systems.
Other areas are creating data protection-compliant architectures, studying the impact of vehicle parameters on health, and implementing preventative measures to enhance driver well-being.
Notably, BMWās keen interest in health and safety recently earned its new flagship compact SUV, the MINI Countryman, the European NCAP 5-Star Rating for safety.
