As the innovations in the automotive world continue, Bentley has just upgraded its latest generation Continental GT, GT Convertible, and Flying Spur to titanium exhaust, bringing more power and noise while saving up to 10 kg in weight.
Indeed, Bentley has joined forces with exhaust specialist Akrapovič to launch a new Titanium Sports Exhaust now available for the above Bentley models, acoustically tuning them to boost the exhaust note at startup and throughout the rev range, the popular carmaker said in a press release on July 2.
Making the new and powerful titanium exhaust
Specifically, the crafting of the new exhaust involved high-grade titanium and super-alloys, which facilitates a “thrilling and visceral soundtrack that does full justice to the performance of these models and is closely related to the system offered as an option for the recently launched Bentayga Speed.”
Thanks to such a composition, the new sports exhaust achieves weight savings of up to 10 kg compared to the standard setup. That’s in addition to the improved performance and acoustic experience that transforms seamlessly through the engine’s work, changing from a potent V8 growl to a refined, high-frequency finish.
Selecting SPORT mode activates valve-controlled bypasses in the rear silencers, unleashing a raspy roar under acceleration and distinctive crackles on overrun. alls components work together to emphasize lightness, strength, optimal flow, and superior heat management.
The matte-finish titanium casing is sandblasted and coated to resist wear and scratches, while the qual tailpipes, branded with both Akrapovič and Bentley logos, add a visual flourish.
As it happens, the Titanium Sports Exhaust is compatible with Bentley’s latest V8 High Performance Hybrid and Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrains. It can be specified as a cost option during model commissioning or retrofitted on all existing fourth-generation Continental GT and Flying Spur vehicles through authorized Bentley retailers.
Speaking of exhausts, researchers at Pennsylvania State University have invented a device that converts heat coming from a car’s exhaust pipe into electricity, a cylindrical device with fin-like protrusions that wraps around a vehicle’s tailpipe. We will have to wait and see whether this invention makes Bentley’s new fancy exhaust obsolete.
