As artificial intelligence (AI) technology continues to invade every industry and life sphere, it may also serve and protect, as citizens of Beijing can now witness for themselves thanks to the new unmanned vehicles and intelligent robotic dogs.
Indeed, the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (Beijing E-Town), announced that the area had officially upgraded its intelligent patrol system by integrating 24/7 coverage with smart patrol cars, AI robotic dogs, and big data analysis, China’s official state news agency reported on March 10.
Specifically, the newly deployed equipment includes 18 L4 unmanned vehicles, 15 manned patrol cars, and two industrial-grade intelligence robotic dogs.
As it happens, the unmanned patrol vehicles boast 360-degree panoramic cameras and high-precision sensors and can tap into the smart city video system, creating this way a comprehensive 3D monitoring network that integrates aerial and ground surveillance.

Meanwhile, the robotic canines feature multispectral cameras, searchlights, and high-precision sensors, weigh about 65 kilograms, and can withstand extreme environments like heavy rain and high temperatures. Their back design also supports rapid fitting of specialized equipment like explosion-proof gear and gas detectors.
Working together, the robotic dogs perform meticulous ground inspections, while the smart cars handle supply deliveries and data transmission. The intelligent patrol system leverages advanced AI algorithms and big data analysis to detect abnormal situations, fire hazards, and other potential risks in real-time.
Through a 5G network, the system can immediately notify the command center, ensuring swift responses to emergencies. Per a Beijing E-Town spokesperson, the organization will continue to explore the deep integration of AI with urban governance as the advancements have already delivered results:
“The upgraded system has tripled patrol efficiency compared to traditional methods and significantly reduces blind spots in surveillance.”
Earlier, robotic dogs have been deployed for police use in east China’s Anhui Province, where they assist in patrols and other tasks alongside officers and drones, Xinhua reports.
Elsewhere, robots are taking over other activities, like playing football at the AI-themed Beijing’s Lunar New Year event, training NBA stars, helping around the house, and will even participate in a Beijing half-marathon in April this year. Moreover, Meta has announced plans to build AI-driven humanoid robots but was met with skepticism.
