Amazon Web Services (AWS) has opened a new infrastructure region in Taiwan in a bid to help strengthen tech development in the region.
In a news blog on 5 June, AWS said the new infrastructure setup brings AWS global footprint to 117 Availability Zones across 37 geographic Regions worldwide.
The new AWS region will help developers, startups, and enterprises, as well as education, and many other sectors run their applications and serve end users while maintaining data residency in Taiwan.
Building from a decade of existence
AWS is establishing the new region based on ten years of its existence in Taipei. Having been in the country starting with the opening of the AWS Taipei office in 2014, AWS has introduced many infrastructure offerings it will build upon.
With the launch of the AWS Asia Pacific (Taipei) Region, AWS is further strengthening its commitment to supporting innovation in Taiwan.
The new region allows organizations in regulated industries to store data locally while maintaining complete control over data location and movement.
Also, high-tech manufacturing, semiconductor companies as well as small and medium enterprise businesses will gain access to scalable infrastructure that will facilitate their growth.
Already, several organizations in Taiwan such as Cathay Financial Holdings (CFH) are using AWS services to improve how they serve their customers.
Marcus Yao, senior executive vice president of CFH said:
“Cathay Financial Holdings will continue to accelerate digital transformation in the industry, and also improve the stability, security, timeliness, and scalability of our financial services. With the new AWS Region in Taiwan, CFH is expected to provide customers with even more diverse and convenient financial services.”
CFH has built a cloud environment on AWS that strengthens its security control and meets compliance requirements since 2021.
With the several other businesses known as AWS partners in Taiwan, AWS is set to effectively transform tech through the new tech region.
