Americans found a way to download TikTok without app stores, and it’s not with a VPN

Americans have discovered a new way to download and install TikTok without needing an app store or VPN for Android or iOS.

Redditors shared the new way on 12 February, where they have installed TikTok perfectly with no issues and are able to access the platform.

The source appears to be the official TikTok website, but it isn’t clear if it’s TikTok that created it or some random person.

Regaining access to TikTok

The immediate past Biden administration had placed a ban on Chinese social media platform, TikTok on suspicion of alliance with the Chinese Communist Party.

Although the current administration of Donald Trump allegedly lifted the ban for at least 75 days, the American users who didn’t have the app are still not able to access it.

This is because the app stores (Apple Store and Google Play Store) have both delisted the platform for American users and haven’t restored it yet.

Thanks to this new method now, users can install the app without the need for the app stores. It is basically a website with three options — TikTok for iOS, Android, and TikTok Lite.

All a user has to do is visit the website and select their device type whether iOS or Android. They can then scan a QR code on the website for the appropriate device and have the device installed immediately.

As many TikTokers confirmed, the app works well after being installed. However, it is uncertain if the source is actually from TikTok, so care is advised to avoid falling into a security trap.

A big relief

Several Americans have lamented the ban on TikTok, especially as they were unable to access the app.

This revealed that Americans are more in love with the app than the government thinks. The option to bypass app stores therefore is definitely a huge relief.

Meanwhile, YouTube recently made a way for TikTok and Instagram users to share their content on YouTube through a content sharing agreement with Repurpose.io.
