Drones have become very popular for delivery recently, but no one anticipated they could threaten the lives of humans in the process.
Two delivery drones belonging to Amazon crashed into a crane in Tolleson Arizona on 2 October, leading to serious injury that threatened the life of an eyewitness.
An unprecedented crash
The Amazon drones were flying at low altitude when they suddenly crashed into a crane with a checkered flag according to an eyewitness.
As a result of the crash, the drones were broken to pieces and caught fire as shown in a video. The pictures were taken and shared by a woman who claimed to be the wife of the man who suffered an injury from the crash.
The man is said to have accidentally inhaled fumes from the destroyed drones and had problems breathing, leading to the hospitalization.
The use of drones has become quite common, with many businesses using them for different purposes including deliveries.
Local residents told reporters that many drones are always flying around in the area but were never a concern until now that two Amazon drones have crashed in the area.
Amazon confirmed the crash, saying they are already working with local authorities on the incident.
More recent reports say that the company has temporarily suspended Prime Air, its arm that is responsible for the drone service.
Autonomous technology becoming a concern
Autonomous technology has been employed to power cars and drones like the ones Amazon uses. While the designers have said the technology is safe, recent events suggest otherwise.
Earlier this week, an autonomous Waymo taxi was pulled over by the police in California for taking an illegal U-turn.
These incidents have led to the government decision to make new legislation that will allow the police to issue tickets to autonomous vehicles from next year.
