As the automotive industry continues to grow with new electrified cars from various brands, Lexus has just unveiled its ES model, which combines hybrid (HEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) technologies alongside innovative designs.
Indeed, Lexus has debuted its completely redesigned eighth-generation ES sedan, which is scheduled for global rollout starting mid-2026, as part of its effort towards a carbon-neutral future and electrification, according to Toyota’s press release published on April 23.
Specifically, the ES, which was first launched in 1989, represents a cornerstone of the Lexus lineup and has now returned with more modern styling, smarter technology, and a focus on delivering a more connected and sustainable driving experience.
Earlier, Lexus dropped teasers of its all-new electric ES prototype, revealing a more sloped roofline than in previous models, the LED daytime running lights resembling the RZ SUV model, and the main headlamps resting just below them and surrounded by black trim.
New look, smarter interior
Drawing inspiration from Lexus’ LF-ZC concept, it is now clear that the new ES sports a clean, aerodynamic shape and new sedan proportions (5.14 m in length, 1.92 m in width, and up to 1.56 m in height), with a minimalist interior and a new-generation ‘spindle body’ design.
Inside, Lexus has introduced world-first options like Responsive Hidden Switches – physical controls that illuminate as a hand approaches them – and a Sensory Concierge system that personalizes lighting, music, multimedia video, climate, and other functions for each passenger.
Furthermore, other notable details include the panoramic roof with dimming technology, seat-integrated relaxation systems, sustainable bamboo and synthetic leather, ambient lighting, and a premium Mark Levinson surround sound system.
Lexus ES under the hood
As it happens, the ES offers both hybrid and electric options. The BEV variants – the front-wheel-drive ES 350e and the all-wheel-drive DIRECT4-run ES 500e – are equipped with a large-capacity battery, and up to 685 km (350e) and 610 km (500e) of range, capable of reaching up to 165 and 252 kW, and charging for about 30 minutes in 25° Celsius.
Meanwhile, the updated hybrid lineup, including the ES 300h and ES 350h, balances fuel efficiency with 2.0L and 2.5L inline 4-cylinder respectively, achieving up to 148 kW and 182 kW, the latter featuring an integrated eAxle for higher battery output and less weight.
The new ES also boasts a stiffer chassis, multi-link rear suspension system, Dynamic Rear Steering (DRS), a MacPherson strut for the front suspension, and the latest Lexus Safety System+, with options like advanced adaptive cruise control, lane-change assist, a 3D panoramic view monitor, and enhanced pedestrian detection.
