About 1 billion XRP just unlocked from escrow. The release landed on September 1, 2026. Ripple confirmed the transfer through three separate transactions.
Whale Alert tracked the largest leg, a 500 million XRP unlock worth roughly $689.6 million.

How the Release Broke Down
The unlock split into three parts. One transaction moved 500 million XRP. A second moved 400 million. A third moved 100 million. That adds up to the full 1 billion XRP tranche.
Ripple’s escrow balance dropped from about 32.28 billion XRP to 31.28 billion, according to an on-chain tracker reading active XRPL escrow objects. The mechanism dates back to December 2017.
Ripple locked 55 billion XRP into time-based smart contracts back then. Up to 1 billion can unlock at the start of each month.

Why the Headline Number Overstates the Impact
An unlock isn’t the same as a sale. Ripple typically re-locks most of each release into new escrow contracts.
Recent months have seen 600 million to 800 million XRP go straight back into escrow.
That leaves roughly 200 million to 400 million XRP actually reaching circulation.
At current prices, that net addition works out to somewhere between $276 million and $552 million. The other three-quarters of the headline figure never leaves Ripple’s control.
XRP’s Rough Week
XRP traded at $1.38 on September 1, 2026 (13:00 UTC). That’s down 6.5% over seven days. The chart shows real volatility into the unlock.
Price held near $1.45 on August 26. It dropped toward $1.35 by August 27. It spiked back above $1.45 around August 28.
Then it fell sharply to a low near $1.35 by August 31. It recovered slightly to $1.38 as the unlock landed.

This pattern matches XRP’s usual behavior around these events. Prices swing hard in the days before, then settle once the release actually happens.
What History Says About These Events
Techgaged has tracked XRP’s whale and holder behavior closely this year. Techgaged previously reported on the resistance zone XRP has been testing repeatedly in recent months.
It also flagged how XRP has swung between extended stretches of record-low exchange deposits and sudden bursts of large-holder activity throughout 2026. Monthly unlocks have run on this same schedule since 2017.
The market has priced most of the mechanism in by now. This release looks like routine supply management, not a fresh sell signal.
The real number worth tracking over the next few days is how much of the newly available XRP actually lands on exchanges, not the 1 billion headline figure itself.
