Google just announced that it is soon to release Pixel 9a, which will be the latest A-series phone with Google AI smarts.
The phone is to be powered by Google Tensor G4, Google’s fastest, most efficient chip yet, and will come with everything you would expect from their Pixel 9 series phones.
Here are five of the most important features of the phone to look forward to ahead of the launch which is soon.
A sleek design
The Pixel 9a is expected to come with a brand new look, like nothing you’ve ever seen in the Pixel 9 phones that have been released.
It will have a sleek, flat profile, rounded edges and an upgraded 6.3-inch Actua display. The display according to Google will be the brightest on an A-series ever, being 35% brighter than Pixel 8a at 2700 nits.
The screen will also have a 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate for a smoother, more vibrant experience. In terms of color, the phone will have two fun colorways: Peony and brand new Iris. it will also be available in Porcelain and Obsidian.
A solid camera
Pixel 9a has the best in-class camera according to Google, giving users the ability to take stunning pictures and videos for a memorable experience.
The upgraded dual rear camera system has a 13MP ultrawide camera and a 48MP main camera and is the first A-series phone to come with a Macro Focus enabling users to capture all the details.
Some of the camera’s new capabilities include
- Add Me can combine two group pictures into one, making it possible to see everyone in a single picture. It’s on the A-series for the first time.
- Best Take makes creating a group picture easy, by seamlessly blending facial expressions from a series of photos into one.
- Magic Editor uses Auto Frame to automatically reframe your photo, whether new or old. It also helps with cropping, and allows users to add or remove details by simply describing them.
Other features of the camera include Magic Eraser, Audio Magic Eraser, Night Sight, Astrophotography and the new Panorama with Night Sight.
A strong build
The Pixel 9a is built to last, with upgraded IP68 water and dust resistance that enables it to withstand spills, drops, and dings.
The battery can work for over 30 hours when fully charged, and can last over 100 hours with extreme battery save, giving it the best battery life of any available Pixel 9.
In addition, the phone comes with seven years of OS updates, security updates and Pixel Drops, keeping it fresh all year round.
Quick access to Gemini
Another notable feature of the Pixel 9a is that it comes with the Gemini Nano even at its price point of under $500. This is because the Pixel A-series is the only smartphone line featuring the AI assistant.
The personal assistant can help with anything, including Google apps like Maps, Calendar and YouTube to make multitasking easy.
The new phone also brings access to Gemini Live, which allows you to interact with Gemini by voice.
Also with the upcoming Gemini Advanced, users can literally have a conversation with Gemini and share videos of what is going on around them at any time.
Something for the kids
If you have kids, the Pixel 9a also has something for them too. The phone has AI features for children that you can use to manage their use of the device even when you’re not there.
Parents and guardians can set up a new phone for kids using the Pixel 9a easy onboarding process.
Using Google Family Link, they can manage their children’s accounts and devices with features like screen time controls, app usage insights, app download approvals, privacy settings and location sharing.
The School Time feature helps reduce distractions by limiting phone functionality and silencing notifications during school hours.
What’s more? Parents will soon be able to easily adjust time intervals and breaks to fit their children’s schedules, as well as choose the apps that are silenced and restricted.
There’s a lot more to explore for the kids, including Google Wallet for Kids, which is already rolling out on Pixel 9a in the U.S., U.K., Australia, Spain and Poland today.
When is it available and how much does it cost?
